WELCOME

This will be our second annual ArtFIBERfest which is being held in Issaquah, WA. on June 21-25, 2006. Last year went fabulous, so we are once again planning an event solely dedicated to the textile arts. This event is somewhat similar to our other event, Artfest, in that we adopt the same schedule. However, there is a much different feel since the group is 1/4 the size (about 150 folks) and the venue, time of year and concentration on one particular medium make it much different.  We have selected fiber teachers who are “out of the box” when it comes to the traditional world of fabric.  The 3 "full day" workshops along with great extra curricular evening events, makes ArtFIBERfest the perfect place to recharge your batteries and leave, bursting with fresh creative energy.

ArtFIBERfest is a unique, camp-like experience where artists come together to create, share, learn from and be nourished. New friendships are formed and ideas are revealed, renewing your sense of self, your talents, your own creative vision, and a deeper understanding of creativity and how it is of the utmost importance in our lives. The workshops are full 6 hour sessions designed to provide not only several techniques learned throughout the day but time enough to actually work on what has been learned so that it can sink in. The teachers come from all over the United States and represent some of the best in their fields.

ACTIVITIES

Some of the highlights of ArtFIBERfest include the Art Asylum room which we fill with all sorts of odds and ends to create with at any hour of the day or night. This is the type of place where you will literally see one person's junk turn into another person's treasure right before your eyes. It will also be a great place to sit and finish your projects from your workshops while chatting with other like-minded guests. On Friday evening, we offer a vendor marketplace bursting with fun, handmade pieces of art and cool materials you’ll want to use in your next project. On Saturday we will have an evening show-n-tell wrap-up to see what had been created during the retreat. The work created last year was astounding and all looked as if it belonged in a gallery. It was simply amazing! We will kick off with a gathering on the first night to give you an overview of what the weekend entails and what to expect. Lots of ideas and lots of fun in store!

LOCATION

Trinity Lutheran College was built in the 60’s as a convent and still emits a serenity that can be felt. The dorm rooms, classrooms and dining hall are all in connecting buildings, making it easy to get around without going outside. Should you wish to take a walk, there are a few trails leading into the woods around their property. TLC is located within 2 minutes of Issaquah, a metropolitan city with everything you might need. Issaquah is roughly 30 minutes from the Seatac airport and 20 minutes from downtown Seattle.

WORKSHOPS

First of all, please visit the websites of all these artists to give you a better overall view of their work. You will see links to most when you click on their bios page. If you have questions about any of their classes, you can email them from their websites.   Each workshop you are signed up for will have a letter from your teacher that states materials needed for class. You will receive these upon confirmation. We have attempted to note if a sewing machine is required for that particular class. We will not have any sewing machines available at the event, so you will need to bring your own. However...many classes only require a couple for the entire class.

IMPORTANT REGISTRATION INFO.

To ensure a better chance of getting your first choice in workshops, it is important to postmark your forms on the first day of registration (December 5, 2005). It helps tremendously to send applications together if you are coming with another person or persons. Confirmation letters will start going out around the middle of December.
