Color Theory

We live in a colorful world and sometimes its hard to translate that same beauty into our own work. Surprisingly there are rules and reasoning that we can explore as to why and how color works together. If you have always loved color but never knew where to begin this is the workshop for you.

Using acrylic paints we will be practicing the art of color-mixing. You will learn how to mix any color you desire using only our six primary colors and white giving you a deeper insight into how color is created in the world. We will then move on to combining different color palettes to explore hue / value / saturation / complimentry colors / etc...to further your knowledge of how to put color schemes together.

Supply List:

• Round acrylic brush size 3 - 6 (bring what you have, just make sure its not too big)
• You will need 7 tubes of acrylic paint: bring one warm and one cool from each color:
  • Cool Reds: Alizarin Crimson (recommended), Rose Madder Genuine, Quinadrone Red.
  • Warm Reds: Cadmium Red Hue (no added words like “light” or “deep” as this means they’ve altered the color to be warmer or cooler, if it’s your only option pick the one marked “medium”)(recommended), Flame Red, Pyrrol Red
  • Warm Blues: Ultramarine (recommended), Prussian, Cobalt.
  • Cool Blues: Cerulean (recommended), Manganese, Pthalo.
  • Warm Yellows: Cadmium Yellow hue (again no added “light” or “deep”)(recommended)
  • Cool Yellow: Aureolin Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Hansa Yellow.
  • Titanium White
    (*note that you will NOT be allowed to use any other color, such as green / orange / purple / black / brown / etc. Variations of the above colors are ok)

A Little About ME

I am a visual thinker, conceptualist, problem-solver and story teller. I have a passion for experiencing and studying the visual world for its lustrous color, its incredible shapes / spacial relationships, and its ability to form our thoughts, emotions and experiences as we go through life. Currently I’ve felt a strong pull towards interactive art and have been currently working on ways I can create my illustrative work but in a 3-dimensional environment so the viewer isn’t simply reading my story but experiencing it by full immersion.

I graduated from RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration, June 2007. I have also been the the web-designer of Artfest, artFIBERfest the Journalfest sites.
