Home Renovations Update

I recently got the A-OK from Tracy that we could make some serious changes to our home.  I desperately need something new.  These red and yellow walls, magenta carpet and cheap squeaky ikea laminate floor all have done their duty but time for it all to retire.

The photo above is one of TONS I have saved that helps me focus on the look I’m kinda going after…LOTS of wood, and white walls (I have picked out Benjamin Moore’s “Simply White”).  I love old japanese style….but am already thinking of adding a great big black swiss cross painted somewhere.

For starters, we had to re-roof our house which was way overdue.  Every time it rained, I’d run for the stack of bowls and knew exactly where they needed to be placed.  This was way too big of a chunk of $, but had to be done.

This photo below shows 2 samples of flooring given to us by Tracy’s contractor friend so we could see how each looked.  Everyone recommends Luxury Vinyl Planks and after much research, it’s our choice.  It’ll be nice having it over our entire floor.  We had the dogs walk across it to see how it sounded.  Remarkably quiet!

This is the color we’ve chosen but will be much less than the stated price, due to who Tracy knows.  😉

In the spirit of old japanese style, I thought this light was really pretty, but……

…..this one below is tugging at my heart a little more.  Does Old Japan style mix with Modern UFO style?  It might have to!

I have now spent way too much time looking at desks, but this is the one (in the forefront) I can’t get off my mind.  It has a small drawer under it.  I just love the easy feel of it.  I want something beautiful since it is going in my living room with my computer on it.  I’m scared to see what Tracy picks out…

This big long dining table is on my wishlist but not happening because of the price of it ($2400).  And honestly…do I really need a table this long, especially when I don’t like dinner parties?!  Handy at holidays but…

Didn’t really find anything at Ikea except for this cabinet for misc. desk stuff I want hidden.  Still debating if I want it.  I think it is a eucalyptus veneer.

And these coffee tables were pretty awesome…just really really short.  It will have to wait until we see how the room pans out.

So that’s the update for now.  Will keep you informed on the progress along with anything new and cool I find.

This is so fun. Congratulations on the renovation. Thank you for sharing. We just bought a condo in Tucson this year, and it was such a DELIGHT to be able to abandon all of the constraints, legacy decisions, furniture, etc of the house in Ithaca when decorating this one. I did most of it from Homegoods, IKEA and Target with a few accent pieces from southwest designers. I call the style “IKEA meets Spanish Inquisition”. It’s light and airy but with wrought iron, crosses, light rustic wood, cactus and my fav, a cowhide chair. We still will live in the Ithaca house in the summer, but my heart is here now.

SOOOO good to hear from you again. And what a difference to live in tucson! Our son-in-law moved here from upstate new york and he’s a different person now. Much more relaxed, more creative. 😉 will give you a hollar if we make it back down to AZ.

    Hi Teesha,
Thanks for sharing this!! Perfect timing as I’m going to soon be gutting and redoing a second vacation home I have at the coast. I’ll have a pretty limited budget that will need to stretch over multiple repairs, but with so many decisions to make, it’s a little overwhelming. This house has been sorely abused and I feel strongly that I need to be mindful to put loving, healing energy back into it. Great to see your wonderful ideas (LOVE, LOVE the space light!) and be reminded of IKEA duh! Keep ’em coming! I trust you’re taste/style so much more than the home design mags.
Hopefully my beach/lake house will be all ready by the time you and Tracy come to Eugene area (:-) hint) to visit.

oh fun! would love a little beach house. I’m certain that once you take a little time to look around, you will feel what wants to be in that little home of yours. and we will definitely be trekking your way in 2016 if I have my way. 😉

Oh my! So happy for you both, Teesha! Once it is all in place you will be so happy and at peace again. And I have to comment on the dogs. Absolutely waiting for Tracy’s every move! And right under his feet–both of them. They’ve gotten so big! They are absolutely beautiful. I love it when he posts pics/videos of them. I love my cattle dog and can’t imagine life without him. 🙂

Good choice -the vinyl floor tiles are practical and warm underfoot and perfect with dogs!!! I use the steam mop on them to keep them looking good.

in all my years of having my interior design business I found that my best “finds” came from consignment stores. when I started consignment stores were not considered to be much more than junk people didn’t want anymore, but now they have risen to a new level and what you can find is amazing. so you might want to take a look and find something totally “out of the box” and a real conversation piece. to me it’s like collage – finding just the right “unusual” something to fit in a space.

OHHH…thank you for that comment…both as a place to shop but also as a place to take stuff to. I’m not much a fan of thrift stores, so I lump consignment shops into that, but I know of a few I will go check out now. I agree…having a couple really awesome things makes all the difference in the world.
