WORKSHOPS
The Odd Journalers Adventure Club
In the spirit of the steampunk genre we will be presenting some journaling workshops at our art studio in Issaquah, WA. We are currently offering 2 workshops.
The first one is all about journaling. Both Tracy and Teesha will guide you in first making a 16 page (8x10) journal out of our favorite fabriano paper and then practicing the techniques you learn in class in your new journal during the 2-day event. Topics will include journal writing, collage, stamp carving, lomography, color, lettering, copic airbrush, doodling and more. We will also discuss how to open yourself to the universal creative flow so the art and writing bubbles up from deep inside. We will focus on the playful aspect of journaling through guided excercises that will allow your creativity to come spilling out. This workshop starts on a friday night at our studio when you can wander around and see what goodies we have collected over the past 25 years. We will also paint the pages of our journal firday evening so they have a chance to dry. Then saturday and sunday will be devoted to journaling up a storm as we teach you fun things that will make journaling seem like playing in a sandbox.
The 2nd workshop focuses on making metal steampunk journals. Tracy will show you all the tricks he uses to create his amazing metal and leather journals that can withstand all your adventures in this world and beyond. Learn riveting metal, stamping into metal, using resins to embed objects and finishes as well as bookbinding methods that can be used with various other types of book making. This workshop is on a saturday and sunday, allowing ample time to really create a journal that is intricate and mysterious.
The 3rd workshop is really a longer version of the first one on journaling and is an extension of a retreat we held last January called PLAY. This one is held at Fort Worden in Port Townsend and really delves deep into the journaling process by offering 3-1/2 full days (9am-9pm) of nothing but hands on visual journaling.
For now we are only offering these retreats at our studio instead of traveling to other cities (as was previously mentioned in other newsletters). We feel we can offer SO much more since we have so many more tools and supplies at our studio to play with.
We are now taking reservations for the following workshops:
Journaling: August 15-17, 2008, fri:5-9, sat:10-5, sun:10-5 - $275 includes all supplies. (This workshop is now FULL. We will probably schedule another one for the first part of 2009. Please check back later or email if you want notification when the date is set.)
Metal Journals: November 15-16, 2008, sat:10-5, sun:10-5 - $250 includes all supplies.
Journaling & Beyond (formerly PLAY): January 29-February 2, 2009 - thur:3pm to mon:10am - $550 includes 4 nights of a shared room/bed in an officers house, 4 meals and most supplies. OR $650 includes 4 nights of a private room in an officers house, 4 meals and most supplies. (This workshop only has a few spaces left)
